We would like to thank all the organisers and managers of the Steyning Live Lounge event, not only for putting on a well-run day, attended and enjoyed by lots and lots (and lots) of Steyning families, but also for the swift and appropriate response to a difficult medical situation when my son suffered an acute allergic reaction and began having breathing difficulties.
The event first-aid team, nurses and managers responded immediately, as did a well-known local GP attending the event with his family.
Breathing assistance was provided, an ambulance called and transport provided down to the ambulance, at the bottom of Mouse Lane.
Up until then, we had enjoyed a great day out in the friendly, sociable way of Steyning, and it was noticeable how well the event was marshalled and run by the managers and security team.
It became even more noticeable when our son needed help. Good job, folks, and thanks again.

Dear Helen, Tim, David and all the other organisers.
I meant to write much earlier, but time has flashed by as usual.
I just wanted to join all the hosts of other people who must have contacted you to say how brilliantly organised Live Lounge was. It was such a perfect event, and I would think that you must be really pleased with how it went. So many people have spoken to me about it and one of the common themes, apart from the excellent choice of music and performers, was how efficiently and sensitively it was marshalled, making everyone feel really welcome, safe and well looked after.
Thank you all so much for all the incredibly hard work that you put into it all.
Very best wishes

Hi all. Jamie here from "The Eleven 37s." On behalf of myself and the band I would just like to say what a great event Live Lounge turned out to be. It was a great event to play and watch. There was a wide variety of acts which I felt all did well, but some acts I felt wern't really relevant to the event but still all the same was good. I thoroughly enjoyed playing and from where we were the sound sounded good, and we got lots of good feedback. The Lighting also was really good. Thanks for letting us play, hope to do it again next year. cheers. Jamie

Dear Tim and Helen and all who helped organise the event,
The Parish Council asked unanimously at its meeting on Monday evening that I write and congratulate all of the Live Lounge committee, organisers and helpers for the great family music event they staged on 31st May on the Old Rifle Range. The effort put into the event, particularly to ensure that local concerns were addressed, paid off and the day was enjoyed by all as a great family day out, with good music. There were only a couple of minor incidents that we are aware of after the event had finished, but in the main it was trouble free.
'Well done' to everyone and please pass our thanks on to all who helped with the event.

Hi David,
My friend and I are two ex-Steyning Grammar students who would love the opportunity to play at a Live Lounge this summer - if you are planning any soon. We both play as acoustic singer-songwriters and have recordings up at the following links:

Please drop us a reply if you need any more info and let us know what you think.
Thanks,

Dear David,
A few thoughts of the day re the concert.
Firstly.......thank you for including me in your event. I enjoyed the
experience and the chance to perform to the people of Steyning. I hope
that they and you yourself enjoyed my performance.
It is no mean feat to arrange and run an event such as that.
Problems.....well for me there was no microphone set up for my vocals,
despite being asked 15 minutes before performing what I required. The
girl who asked me was my height and I explained that I needed a vocal
mike set up to her height. ( that would be perfect for me ). The line
was not set up for an acoustic guitar. So it took a while to sort that
out. So I got a wonderful introduction but then couldn't play.
However, by the end of my first song it got sorted.
I thought that the M.C. was excellent. He did a really good job and came
across very well.
When I arrived I was greeted warmly. Another good job.
I missed the main acts performing late in the afternoon and evening so I
can't comment on that. I'm sure they were good.
I enjoyed the 100 or so strong, ladies choir performance.
What I did not enjoy was the band Convict Minority with their
unnecessary rude lyrics. I know that tastes are different but to hear
them shouting ( it couldn't be called singing) F***ing W**kers as part
of their lyrics was very poor. Judging the rest of the lyrics for that
song, they could have chosen almost any other words as it didn't make
any sense anyway. My wife for one lost interest at that point and
wanted to leave, as did some other members of the public who had
literally just arrived. They turned around and left the arena. That was
a shame.
I know you were promoting local young talent, but in this case it would
have been a good idea to vet their intended songs before they performed
or pull the plug on them.
For a family event they were not suitable. They let you down.
Apart from them......
Overall I think you did a great job.
The venue was gorgeous.
It is always hard to control the public particularly when alcoholic
drink is supplied.
The encouragement to look after the land, included in the program, gets
my vote!!
I hope that there was not too much litter at the end for you to clear up.
I hope that you were able to enjoy the day despite working really hard
throughout.
With best wishes...

Hi Greg, see Tims previous comment reprinted below
I’m delighted that you enjoyed Live Lounge so much. We have been inundated with messages of thanks and some excellent feedback, which is pleasing to say the least.
I’m sorry if you were offended by the bad language. We have a zero tolerance about this and all bands were briefed. Sadly, one or two individuals did not comply. Whilst we did cut the main PA system a couple of times, I know that the on-stage monitors (used by the artists to keep in time and in tune) were still audible to some. We will look at this and see what can be done for future events.
Keep an eye on the website for pictures and more info on the day!
Kind regards and thanks for writing in

Hi all,
congratulations on a roaring success! How refreshing to have something for the real people of steyning, a real finger in the eye for all the "nay" sayers and N.I.M.B.Y.s who want to keep Steyning a glorified cul-de-sac! (see "Hot Fuzz" for easy comparison)
Enjoyed myself (a bit too much) both playing and watching. Hope to be there next year (unless we're playing Wembley!).
Cheers from Pete and the other Others Brothers.

We had a great time at the Rifle range last Saturday, really enjoyed the acts we saw and loved the Swing Band. Lets do it again in 2009!
|
| |
This event was brilliant please do it again next year |
| |
I've just checked the Live Lounge website for the first time since the event - what incredible feedback! I want to add my thanks on this page to all those who helped out on the day with the marshalling - a task that involved some pretty gritty work out of sight and sound of the stage. Thank you to all who gave up their own 2 hours to help keep all our audience members safe on their comings and goings from the site. Although I didn't get to see many of the acts close up, you all sounded great. I thought at times I was at Weston Park, Staffs for V! Let's see if we can book the Killers to support the Speedboatz at Live Lounge 2009. Well Done Everyone. |
| |
Hi Paul, agree with you completely. There were some pretty onerous tasks that required doing and the marshals and your team stepped up to the challenge. Prom-in-the-park next year?
|
| |
Hi David, I can vouch for the amount of effort you guys put in to make sure this event was a success, I hope you feel it was absolutely worth the effort, it was a brilliant day.
I have had some fantastic feedback from children and parents alike from the primary school, both spectators and members of the Dance Club and their families. They wish to send on their thanks to you all for giving the children a unique platform to perform their dance, an experience they won't forget.
From an Information Tent point of view I would like to say my life was made that much easier by the planning and coordinating of a great group of people, expertly directed by Helen.
We also received some great feedback from Steyning Downland Scheme, who appreciated the effort SLL made to protect and promote the surrounding environment.
Kind Regards, Clare. |
| |
Hi Clare, thanks for your comments. There are many many individuals who freely gave up their time before, during and after the event to make it happen. Watch this space i know we will be sending a thank you party invitation out shortly to all our fabulous helpers who made the day run so smoothly. And the bottom line is we couldnt have done it without them!
|
| |
Hi again David, Hi Photographers. Hi Kate at St Peters, Henfield
Love this comments page – please encourage everyone you know to add to it!
Every band is going to want copies of the photo’s – Will they be made available?
Kate – I run Steyning Rocks – I mentor and rehearse many of the young acts you saw at LL on Mondays at the club.
Feel free to get in touch if I can help with acts for you.
ALL fellow Liveloungers A BIG UP and WELL DONE ALL – Cant wait for the after party !!

Hi
Thank you for replying so quickly. Basically every year we have had a brass band. This year we have a new Chairman and we are trying to change things slightly. The idea is to provide a platform for local children who are excited about music to perform. They obviously do need to be good. We are looking for anything from playing the violin to rock and roll and people who sing on their own or choirs. The time slot to fill is about 3 hours but if it works we would like to look into a bigger event and maybe something that goes on after the fete and into the evening for everyone to chill out to next year.
How shall I make communication or do you need to do it on behalf of us. We have never done anything like this before and need to make sure we have all the right equipment if you have any suggestions then we would be very grateful to hear them
Regards
Kate |
| |
You rocked!!! That was the best time of my life I can’t wait till next year love Finn! |
| |
For a first time event, Live Lounge was amazing. Everybody i've spoken to in Steyning this week has had nothing but praise for the show. I think we will be back next year - without a doubt! |
| |
Hello
I am on the PTA at St Peters School in Henfield. For our fete this year 12th July we are hoping to have performing young musicians/singers from local areas. I have looked at your website for the live lounge and you seem to have a good list of acts. I have seen Perry perform at Steyning school talent show.
Would you be able to help me contact the young artists or have any suggestions. Obviously we would not be able to pay them, but they would have their name in the programme for advertising.
I look forward to further contact
Regards
Kate McIlhagga |
| |
Hi Kate, i'm sure there are lots of acts who would love to take part. If anyone would like to come forward and play on the 12th email me at david@steyninglivelounge.co.uk and i'll forward to Kate
|
| |
absolutly fantastic, but this time license the hill... i know theres the orchids but people trample them every other day anyways... also were there recordings taken of that gig/the showcase that we could grab hold of?
thanks! |
| |
Goggz the live lounge ethos is to work in harmony with the environment. We support the Steyning Downland Scheme aims of working with the community and cannot thank Wiston Estate enough for letting the event take place on their land.
P.S there will be a DVD of the event |
| |
Hi Steyning. Mark (monitors) and Sam (Stage Manager) here. Thought we'd add a few words.
What a beautiful place for a show. You are all very lucky to have such a location for a festival. We were amazed how clean the site was only 30 minutes after the last band left the stage.
It was a lot of hard work to make it happen and the Live Lounge Organisers managed what at some times seemed like the impossible. They should constantly be thanked for their work.
We took a walk into Steyning the day after the show, and we heard a lot of good comments about the show. It seems like everyone enjoyed themselves. Thats good news for any future events. We hope to see you all again next year when we can all get soaked, bruised and battered all over again.
A message for the land owners, you know how Glastonbury started dont you?
Cheers from Mark and Sam.
PS - Cheers to David and the Saxon? Restaraunt |
| |
Mark and Sam, along with pitch black you are the unsung heroes of the event. I dont think its widely known that the 2nd stage became inoperable because of the rain. So with the second stage out of commission all the planning that had gone into arranging the acts sound checks was up in the air and Sam made light work of it and kept us on track. Most acts took the changed circumstances with grace and showed great flexibility despite the time-constrained conditions. My heart went out to Chelsea where the gremlins really took hold!
|
| |
i thought it was amazing! do another one please
and i love that it was in a huuge field
surrounded by another huge field
which was surrounded by ANOTHER huge field made it feel like glastonbury haha you were good btw they should get some famous bands to play that would be AMAZING |
| |
Melissa, some of these bands are going to be famous and you saw them here first - Steyning Live Lounge - local music by local people for local people
|
| |
Live lounge was a really fun event; showcasing some of the best local music talent. The atmosphere was well balanced; everyone's tastes were catered for- from the hyperactive ten year old to the sedentary sextagenarian. I hope it happens again next year |
| |
I really enjoyed the LL, would’ve been better if it was slightly sunnier, but apart from that it was brilliant. Couple of things Would’ve liked more bins around the area, they weren’t particularly obvious to begin with.
maybe a proper arrangement of genres? It was very odd having a choir of old ladies followed by a rapping act.
Swearing, didn’t really matter? Surely just a disclaimer at the entrance would prevent you from having to mute the poor guys.
Leave one set of porta-loos for the blokes! The queue was enormous for the womens, and when you removed any split between mens and womens, it meant they were all used! At least let us fellas have quick access XD
As a musician, having to rush so much for setting up was quite annoying. Also, would like an option to customise the kit a bit more :P (maybe have the drumkit on a lil’ podium or something, or more forward. Felt a bit left out at the back!)
That was about it for complaints :3
Apart from that, all I can say is fantastic job at organising something so massive! It was excellent!
Cheers, Luke Tomlin |
| |
Luke, when putting this family community event together i wanted it to be as musically inclusive as possible. We are very lucky in steyning and surrounding areas to have such a diversity of talented musicians. I think the PA people acted quickly and correctly with respect to bad language and in hindsight some acts would have been better placed after the watershed. There are many positives from the day and many things we can try to do better if there is a next time! Glad you enjoyed yourself at Steyning Live Lounge 2008
|
| |
David
we really enjoyed playing great atmosphere everyone loved it and thought the combination of stalls was great a lot of people we talked to said it would be better if either wasnt so long or was more mainly bands lol. ive got a lot ppl sayin the choir went on to long lolz. but from aband point of view it was immense really enjoyed it cant wait till the next on and hopefully get placed huigher in the line up

hey david
granted, our acoustic sound wasn't the greatest (?!) but, bizarrely, i didn't dwell overly on it because 'steyning live lounge' was just such a great day! a little something for everyone, well organized with a really friendly feel running across it. good weather, good food, good bands, good company. it'd be a real shame if it turned out to be the first and last - what was there to grumble about? i'm in for a bigger better one approximately 12 months from now?!

Hi, Your sound was really good out front! As an aside i've sent off a bunch of speel to Bob Harris Show, heres hoping he plays you. I think emile are great!
cheers

i reckon live lounge is was the best thing thats ever happened to steyning! it was a pleasure to play and watch and went incredibly smoothly considering what a large and new event it is, really hope it carries on so future generations can enjoy it like we have!
Tom (DBS) |

Steyning live lounge was an excellent day for young talent to be seeing. And what a day it was. Often young talent is only exposed at schools. Here they had the opportunity to show what they had to a wider audience. Well done to the organisers. They put a lot of practice and effort in getting this event of the ground and without the expertises and encouragement from a fantastic group of organisers this would not have happened. We should encourage more local participation and have this twice a year not only once! Well done guys Deborah (Chantee’s Mom) |
| |
We were there on Saturday and had a lot of fun and really enjoyed the festival!
I hope that we can see something next year as well. thank you for a great day |

Congratulations on a brilliant event last week - the students really enjoyed it, the weather held out and it was a fantastic event for the community. Next year...? |
| |
Dear All
CONGRATULATIONS !!! It looked and felt like all you wanted it to be and I hope that it was !
Brilliant job ! |
| |
It was such fun on the day. Really good atmosphere, we could
never have predicted how well it was going to run. I really enjoyed the
backstage stuff, particularly the lavender ladies moment as they stepped
outside of the minibus!! Michael has got some fab photos of the day
including views down the valley. We're busy with Hopes and Dreams when it
is over I will get him to pass them to you. |

Hello. I hear very positive reviews of Live Lounge from people I've spoken to so congratulations. |

Hi
Hope this is the right address - We met on Sunday after your excellent
event on Saturday and spoke, initially about the adder on the field, and
then about environmental issues that had come up during the organisation
of the concert. We thought you did an excellent job in protecting the
environment on Saturday.
You may remember, I am the secretary of the Sussex Bat Group, and with
my partner was involved with saving the bats in the old barn which has
now been wrecked. I said I would send some bat pics, and am attaching a
couple of pics of the barn, one is a rather poor one but just shows the
Natterer's bats hidden in the beam, which was just about to be pulled
down and burnt.
I will also send some of our own bat pics in a separate message. Can do
more another day - really busy this week!
Best wishes

Hi All.
I ran Steyning Rocks as normal this evening - well, when i say as normal, I mean I collapsed on the sofa and let the YP do all theri own setting up and breaking down............but before hand we had a bit of an open forum / incisive look at Livelounge.
It goes without saying that everyobne there without exception gave the event the BIG thumbs up.
We formalised the session and took notes, recording the YP's views, thougts and ideas.
I'll feed those back into the mix soon enough and I want to give all those who didnt attend the saem opportunity aswell..........but
it occurs to me we should change the website to a feed back site now........show as much in the way of pics and vid as possible, and invite general comment - as a blog or form.
What say we?

Thanks Tim, thats the idea behind this page |

Hi guys.......some pics from Saturday night. Hope you're recovering,
and enjoying the afterglow! What a brilliant night.

I've left them in. Some interesting effects. Gillx |

I have had a quick look at the diary so far. It is exhausting seeing what had to be done to get everything in.
I wanted to say to you what a wonderful day you gave so many people. It was so worth all the hard work. A big well done from us Rogers and we are
looking forward to a celebration.

I thought it all went very well and all the feedback I’ve heard is most positive. We popped along for a bit and were very impressed.
The site was perfect and the sound hardly travelled at all.
All set up well for next year
Thanks for everything |

Dear Tim and all The Team
I got your e-mail address from the 'Live Lounge' website and just wanted to say a massive WELL DONE to you all for a fantastic event on Saturday. It was brilliantly organised and a lovely way to spend the afternoon and evening.
On a constructive note (not whingeing, honest!) quite a few of us were horrified at the language one of the bands use, considering this was advertised as a family event. Any chance of a ban on the 'f' word next year?
Thanks again - looking forward to next year.
